Beaver Falls, PA - In just the first year of eligibility as a full member of the Presidents′ Athletic Conference, not only were the Golden Tornadoes officially ready to compete in the conference championships, Geneva College was hosting the event for the first time in school history. The two-day event went off without a hitch in what turned out to be less than favorable conditions on Saturday afternoon. Competing at times through rain, sleet and snow, the frigid temperatures did not dampen the spirits of the hundreds of student-athletes that descended on Merriman Athletic Complex.

The team results were not exactly what Geneva College and head coach Brian Yowler were anticipating, but the Golden Tornadoes did come up with some outstanding individual performances. The Geneva men finished last out of nine schools with a total of 40 points while the women finished fifth in the overall conference standings with 80 points.

The women′s team provided Geneva with its only two first place finishes of the weekend. Liz Michalak (long jump) and Kathryn Regalado (shot put) became Geneva′s first PAC champions. Michalak′s winning distance of 5-0 ¼ gave her the gold while Regalado posted a first place distance of 38-11 ½.

On the men′s side, Geneva posted a trio of top three finishers that received metals at the end of the day. Perhaps the most impressive performance for the men came in the 100 meter dash where freshman Josh Guiser took home a second place finish with a finals time of 11.44, which was just .03 seconds behind the first place finisher. Nick Edinger (5000 meter) and Tyler French (discus) each finished third overall in their respective events.

Westminster College swept the championships with both its men and women′s team taking home the overall titles.
