Engineering - Baja VehicleThe Geneva College engineering students are participating in the Baja SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) Competition in Auburn, AL on April 19-22.

Geneva students once again are competing in the Baja SAE Competition for undergraduate and graduate engineering majors. The goal for the students is to simulate real-world engineering design project and their related challenges. Each team is competing to have its design accepted for manufacture by a fictitious firm. The teams must utilize their talents to create, build, test and complete a vehicle within the limits of the rules. Those participating must also come up with financial support for their vehicles.

Although a competition, the Baja series is also an opportunity for students to learn the importance of public safety, and create hands on experience for engineering design, fabrication and testing aspects that are a necessity in their field. This alone gives students a new prospective in their field.

Senior mechanical engineering major Oliver Onufer has participated in the competition for several years now and has gained valuable experience. "It′s great for job opportunities; even if your car is horrible, it still shows you have the thought process," he says.
