Geneva College invites the community to attend the annual prayer breakfast commemorating the National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 3 from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. in Alexander Dining Hall. The keynote speaker will be Rev. Rodney Smith, pastor of Chippewa United Methodist Church.
The theme and verse for this year's National Day of Prayer is One Nation Under God, Psalm 33:12. The event will provide an opportunity for Christians to pray corporately for various aspects of our nation such as: education, media, government, military, business leaders and more.
Several community leaders will participate in the program, including Geneva's President, Kenneth Smith; Director of Pine Valley Bible Camp, Matt Reichart; Professor Jeffery Schindel of Geneva′s Communication Department and others.
The National Day of Prayer was first enacted in 1952 by a joint resolution by Congress and signed by President Truman. In 1988, the law was amended and signed by President Reagan, permanently setting the day as the first Thursday of every May. Each year, the president signs a proclamation, encouraging all Americans to pray on this day. The National Day of Prayer breakfast hopes to celebrate and continue this tradition.
The breakfast is free and open to the public. A free-will offering will be taken to support two local non-profit ministries, Tiger Pause Youth Ministry and Pine Valley Bible Camp.
