Beaver Falls, PA - The 2012 Geneva College athletic season will come to a very fitting end this weekend when one of its most successful student-athletes in the past two years represents the Golden Tornadoes on the NCAA national stage. Senior Liz Michalak will conclude the 2012 spring season and her amazing career with a much deserved trip to Claremont, CA and the 2012 NCAA track and field championships.

Michalak qualified for her spot in the women′s heptathlon event with a season best 4340 points, which was 21st out of the required top 22 spots that will be competing. "I can′t think of a more deserving athlete to represent Geneva College as its first NCAA national qualifier," said associate head coach Jason Wargo. "Liz works as hard as or harder than any athlete that I have been around and she wanted this and went out and got it."

Geneva College is in its first year of NCAA Division III eligibility and Michalak, who was also an NCCAA national qualifier, will be making her appearance on the NCAA stage. Two weeks ago, Michalak finished second in the heptathlon at the NCCAA national meet.

Michalak will be chasing Ithaca′s Emma Dewart who leads the county coming into the weekend with a season best 5006 point as the only female to reach the 5000 point mark in 2012.

Head coach Brian Yowler, who will accompany his national qualifier to California, was also very complimentary of his senior star. "Liz has been such a leader for our program. She leads by example and having the opportunity to compete nationally sets a very high standard for our program moving forward."

Michalak will compete in her seven events beginning on Thursday and going through Saturday. The meet will be held at Claremont McKenna, Harvey Mudd and Scrips Colleges.
