Beaver Falls, PA – In the second year of full membership in the Presidents′ Athletic Conference, Geneva College has a pair of programs that have been chosen as pre-season favorites to win titles this fall. The women′s volleyball team topped the pre-season coach′s poll after capturing the school′s first title in 2011. The men′s soccer team edged out defending champion Thomas More by just two points in the pre-season poll after falling to the Saints in the title game last year.

Geneva′s volleyball team was 17-1 in conference play last year and set a school record with 27 victories. Many of the key contributors to last year′s title team are back including PAC player of the year Deanna Briody. Co-head coaches Wendy Smith and Curt Conser will look to lead the program back to the conference winner′s circle yet again in 2012. Geneva′s men′s soccer team finished the 2011 season with a mark of 16-3-3 and suffered a heartbreaking loss in the title game before going on a run through the NCCAA national tournament that ended with a second place finish on the national stage.

In other PAC pre-season polls, Geneva′s men′s and women′s cross country teams were each chosen to finish third while the women′s soccer team received 31 points and was picked to finish eighth overall. In women′s tennis, the Golden Tornadoes also grabbed 31 points and were chosen to finish seventh overall. The volleyball team received five of the possible nine first-place votes and edged out Bethany by ten points for the top spot. In men′s soccer, Geneva grabbed three first place votes to beat out Thomas More for the top spot.
