Gettysburg, PA - The Geneva College women′s volleyball team has set school records for victories in each of the past two seasons. The way the 2012 campaign opened on Friday night, it may be time to get out the eraser once again. The Golden Tornadoes cruised to a pair of 3-0 victories at the Gettysburg College tournament on Friday to open the new season at 2-0. Geneva opened the evening with a 3-0 victory over Penn State Behrend by scores of 25-22, 25-20, 25-12. Presidents′ Athletic Conference defending player of the year Deanna Briody started her new season in style with 39 assists and 16 digs in the victory. Ashley Davis led the offensive attack with ten kills and three service aces while Maggie Bowersox chipped in with nine kills.

Bowersox continued her dominance in the second match of the day as Geneva swept host Gettysburg by scores of 25-12, 25-23, 25-19. The senior middle hitter has 12 kills on just 15 swings and only one error. She got help from Erin Smith and Kristland McCracken who each posted eight kills. Briody finished up her first night of the new season with 33 assists in the night cap.

The Golden Tornadoes will get back to action on Saturday with matches against Dickinson and Messiah to close out the weekend. Geneva doesn′t open its home schedule until September 12th when it hosts Waynesburg in PAC action. The Golden Tornadoes begin defense of their first PAC title on Wednesday when they travel to Saint Vincent.
