Oberlin, OH - Geneva College′s men′s soccer team and head coach Gary Dunda don′t shy away from good competition. On Friday night, the Golden Tornadoes opened the 2012 season on the road against a very good Oberlin College team on the first night of the Oberlin tournament. When the dust settled, a back and forth match went the way of the host school by the score of 1-0. Geneva only tasted defeat six times in 2011 but the new season opened with a heartbreaking one-goal defeat.

Neither side could find the net in the first half but it was Oberlin′s Ed Vitoria who found the net with a header off of Ari Schwartz′s corner kick in the 66th minute that proved to be the difference.

Geneva out shot Oberlin 10-9 in the game but managed to get just two shots on the net in 90 minutes. In fact, Oberlin only had three shots on goal with sophomore goalkeeper Bryan Butler turning aside two of those attempts. The Golden Tornadoes will have to make a quick turnaround on Saturday night when they will face off against Heidelberg on day two of the Oberlin Tournament. Geneva will visit Fredonia State on Tuesday before finally opening the home schedule a week from Saturday against Allegheny College at 7 pm.
