Beaver Falls, PA - It took overtime, a 30 minute weather delay to start the match, a 45 minute weather delay at halftime but the Geneva College women′s soccer team found a way to defeat Muskingum 2-1 in overtime for its first victory of the 2012 season. Four minutes into the second overtime, Heidi Mann scored her second goal of the match to even Geneva′s early season record at 1-1.

Because of lightning in the area, the match started late and so did Geneva′s defense. The Golden Tornadoes spotted Muskingum the first goal of the game just minutes into the match. Geneva held the Muskies off the board for the rest of the match as freshman Anna McMullen made six saves to pick up her first collegiate victory. The freshman theme played out loud and clear for Geneva as it was first year player Heidi Mann that accounted for both Geneva goals and has scored all three Golden Tornadoes′ tallies to open the new year.

Mann evened the match in the 25th minute after taking a short pass from her sister Elise before pounding the ball into the back of the net. The game remained tied at halftime when another storm hit College Hill that delayed the start of the second half for 45 minutes. Neither team could break the tie in the second half despite Geneva out shooting Muskingum 12-5 in the final 45 minutes. The Golden Tornadoes took 22 shots to Muskingum′s 10 for the game.

After a scoreless first overtime, the younger Mann struck again on an assist from Megan Hiers as Geneva rushed the field in celebration of the overtime winner.

Geneva will hit the road on Wednesday to take on Point Park. The Golden Tornadoes will return home on September 12th to take on Carlow University at 4:30 pm.
