Oberlin, OH - Geneva′s men′s soccer team opened the 2012 season on Friday night and could not manage to find the back of the net. On Saturday, the Golden Tornadoes solved that problem in a 2-0 victory over Heidelberg at the Oberlin College Tournament. The victory evened Geneva′s early season record at 1-1 with a two-game split in the first weekend of the season.

The game remained scoreless until Jeb Nash took advantage of a penalty kick opportunity and scored the game′s first goal and the ultimate game winner in the 24th minute. Nash added to his offensive statistical line with his second goal of the game in the 88th minute to put the game away. Nash smashed a ball past the keeper to give Geneva its 2-0 lead and its first victory of the season.

Sophomore goalkeeper Bryan Butler picked up his first win and first shut-out of the season with five saves in the victory. Geneva managed to out shoot Heidelberg 12-10 in the game as Geneva was able to keep their opponents off the board.

Geneva heads to Fredonia State on Tuesday before heading home for the home opener on Saturday night against Allegheny College.
