Latrobe, PA - With a bulls-eye placed squarely on its back the Geneva College women′s volleyball team opened defense of its 2011 Presidents′ Athletic Confernece title on Wednesday night. Coming off a 17-1 conference mark last year, the Golden Tornadoes started off on the right foot with a 3-1 victory at Saint Vincent College by scores of 25-13, 13-25, 25-7, 25-19.

The Golden Tornadoes clearly flexed their muscles after dropping just their second set of the season in set number two. Geneva stormed out of the gate in the third set to reestablish the lead and cruise to its fifth consecutive victory to open the 2012 campaign.

Geneva got a balanced offensive attack led by Kristland McCracken′s ten kills, Erin Smith added nine, Ashley Davis picked up eight and Maggie Bowersox finished with seven. Bowersox also enjoyed a solid evening on the service line with a pair of aces.

Geneva heads back to the tournament trail this weekend with a visit to Hiram College when it will play four matches on Friday and Saturday beginning with Frostburg State and Carnegie Mellon on Friday evening.
