Pittsburgh, PA - The Geneva College tennis team made its second trip to Pittsburgh in less than a week and the result was the same both times. The Golden Tornadoes snuck back to Beaver Falls with a 5-4 victory over LaRoche College on Friday afternoon to improve to 2-1 on the young season.

Geneva opened the match by taking two of three singles matches with was highlighted by an incredible comeback by the number two team that ultimately decided the entire match. The duo of Brittany Kress and Courtney Light spotted LaRoche a 6-0 lead before rallying for wins in the next eight games to win the match 8-6. Along with an 8-4 victory from top doubles team Julie Kline and Christine Bullock, the Golden Tornadoes took a one point advantage into singles play.

Geneva got the three victories it needed in singles from Alison Beattie (6-3, 6-1), Brittany Kress (6-4, 6-2) and Christine Bullock (6-2, 6-0). Sophomore Darcie Shaffer lost in a third set tiebreaker 10-3 that would have extended Geneva′s margin of victory even further.

The Golden Tornadoes get back into conference play on Saturday afternoon when they return home to take on Washington & Jefferson at 1 pm at Brady′s Run Park. Geneva will look to improve upon its 1-0 PAC record after a 5-4 win against Chatham to open the conference season.
