Waynesburg, PA - It was ladies night at the Waynesburg University Invitational. Actually to be totally accurate it was ladies morning as the Geneva College women′s cross country team took home its second first place finish in as many weekends. The Geneva men′s team stayed at home while the women′s team took the course against some very impressive competition. When the race was over, it was the Golden Tornadoes′ women that were standing solidly in the winner′s circle.

Beating the likes of PAC foe Waynesburg and NCAA Division II California University of Pennsylvania, the Geneva College women remained perfect on the season. The Geneva quintet of Sarah-Noel Meek (3), Alayna Merkle (5), Emily Hoobler (7), Shannon Rech (8) and Anna Kluitenberg (16) managed to run past the competition. Geneva′s team total of 39 points was good enough to sneak past second place California of Pennsylvania by 15 points for the overall victory.

Meek, who garnered PAC female runner of the week honors last week, turned in another impressive performance in only her second collegiate meet. Battling both the competition and the weather, Geneva′s women were forced to run through some treacherous rain to get the victory. "It was a very impressive performance across the board," said Geneva head coach Brian Yowler. "We have some outstanding talent in our program this year and I was very pleased with today′s result. Hopefully, they will all keep improving with each race which should make us very dangerous come season′s end."

Geneva′s women will take next Saturday off before returning to the course at Saint Vincent College on September 22nd.
