Hiram, OH - It was bound to happen sooner or later but the Geneva College women′s volleyball team was hoping for later. As it turned out, the Golden Tornadoes dropped their first match of the season on Saturday as they split a pair of matches on the final day of the Hiram College Tournament. The day started well with Geneva winning for the eighth consecutive time with a 3-1 victory over Capital by scores of 25-21, 23-25, 25-20, 25-21. In the night cap, Geneva and Hiram played four games to the exact score but the bad news was that Hiram won three of them by the count of 25-22.

In the first match, Maggie Bowersox led the offense with 18 kills while Ashley Davis added 14 and Kristland McCracken chipped in with 11. Deanna Briody assisted on 48 kills in the match while freshman Alex Baughman led the defense with 22 digs.

Hiram and Geneva split the first two sets of the match before the Terriors took control with wins in sets three and four. McCracken threw down a season best 24 kills with Davis and Bowersox each helping out with 14 kills. Briody added 45 assists, 20 digs and six service aces against Hiram but it was enough to help Geneva remain unbeaten.

Geneva heads to Chatham on Tuesday for a pair of PAC matches against the Cougars and visiting Washington & Jefferson. The Golden Tornadoes will finally return for the home opener on Wednesday night against Waynesburg at 7 pm.
