Geneva Rolls Past Thomas More in Kentucky

Crestview Hills, KY - The weekend didn′t start out well for the Geneva College women′s tennis team but it ended with a bang. The Golden Tornadoes dropped a non-conference match against Franklin College on Friday but rebounded for an 8-1 conference win against Thomas More on Saturday morning. The victory pushed Geneva′s overall record to 5-4 including a 3-2 mark within conference play.

Geneva swept all three doubles matches to take a commanding 3-0 lead in the match. Teammates Julie Kline and Christine Bullock cruised to an 8-2 victory in number one singles while Jen Bullock and Samantha Jensen took care of business in a tight 9-7 victory. Brittany Kress and Courtney Light closed out the sweep with an 8-1 victory in the third doubles match.

In singles, Geneva won five of six matches highlighted by an impressive comeback victory by Julie Kline in number one singles. Kline split her first two sets and trailed 4-1 in set number three before rallying for the victory 1-6, 7-6, 6-4. Jensen, Kress, Christine Bullock and Darcie Shaffer also won singles matches to give Geneva its decisive victory and a happy bus ride home to Beaver Falls.

The Golden Tornadoes will travel to Bethany on Tuesday before returning home to take on Waynesburg on Thursday at 4 pm.
