Alliance, OH - The Geneva women′s soccer team traveled to Ohio on Saturday for a non-conference match against Mt. Union University. In an evenly played match for most of the afternoon, the Golden Tornadoes came up on the short end of a 2-1 decision to the Purple Raiders. Geneva fell to 3-4-1 overall with the loss.

Mt. Union drew first blood with the only first half goal just ten minutes into the match. Mt. Union out shot Geneva 9-7 in the first half but freshman goalkeeper Anna McMullen kept the Golden Tornadoes close with four first half saves.

McMullen′s efforts seemingly paid off when fellow freshman Heidi Mann notched her eighth goal of the season to tie the game in the 53rd minute. Mann took a feed from Maura Allen and fired a shot into the back of the net. The tie game was short-lived as the Purple Raiders responded with the eventual game winner just six minutes later. Mt. Union′s Shannon Evans scored her sixth and seventh goals of the season to make the difference in the one-goal final score.

Geneva finished with 16 shots to 20 for Mount Union while McMullen made 11 saves in the loss. The Golden Tornadoes will play their final tune-up match on Monday when they travel across town to face Penn State Beaver. Geneva opens up conference play at Washington & Jefferson next Saturday.
