Grantham, PA - Geneva College men′s soccer head coach Gary Dunda is all too familiar of the dominance that is Messiah soccer. A Messiah graduate himself, Dunda and the Golden Tornadoes tried to tame the giant on Saturday afternoon and came up short by a 4-0 decision. The Golden Tornadoes, who fell to 4-4-1 on the season, dropped an 8-0 home decision to Messiah a year ago and were looking for some revenge in 2012.

Messiah, ranked third in the most recent NCAA Division III poll, remained unbeaten with the victory at 7-0-1 but also got all it could handle from Geneva for most of the match. Neither team could find the net early in the match and Geneva goalkeeper Bryan Butler was on his game by keeping the heavily favored Messiah team off the board for most of the first half. The scoreless tie was broken in the 38th minute by Messiah′s Bryan Myer′s first goal of the season. A one-touch shot passed Butler proved to be the game winner. Messiah out shot Geneva 13-1 in the first half but the Golden Tornadoes were still breathing down just 1-0 at the break.

Messiah imposed some more of its will early in the second stanza when it doubled the lead with a goal just seven minutes into the second half. Things quickly got worse for Geneva as Messiah made it 3-0 less than two minutes later. The final goal came in the 73rd minute for what was a 4-0 final score. Messiah was impressive on the field and on the statistic sheet with a 25-2 advantage in shots for the game. Butler made six saves in the match for the Golden Tornadoes, who could not generate much in the way of offensive challenges.

With nine non-conference games behind them, the Golden Tornadoes will now turn their attention on the Presidents′ Athletic Conference. Geneva opens conference play next Saturday at Washington & Jefferson. The Golden Tornadoes will host their first home PAC match of the year on October 3rd when Saint Vincent comes to town.
