Monaca, PA - Six different players scored in the first half as the Geneva College women enjoyed an offensive explosion against Penn State Beaver. The Golden Tornadoes cruised in the second half and picked up a 9-1 decision against the Lions. The victory pushed Geneva′s overall record back to the .500 mark at 4-4-1 as it gets set to open conference play on Saturday.
Elise Mann ended her season long scoring drought with her first goal of the season to get Geneva on the scoreboard and open the flood gates to what would be a fun half of soccer for the Golden Tornadoes. Younger sister Heidi Mann got into the act with her team leading ninth goal of the season in nine games. Caroline Wright posted her second goal of the season as did Maura Allen before Karmyn Culbertson found the net for her first tally of the season to close out a 6-0 halftime lead.
The Lions came out of the halftime break and scored their only goal of the match just 30 seconds into the second stanza. Geneva managed to right the ship with Culbertson′s second goal of the game. Megan Heirs ended the match with her first two goals of the season as Geneva handed Penn State Beaver a 9-1 setback. The Golden Tornadoes used a trio of goalkeepers to get the victory. Anna McMullen was credited with the victory after 20 minutes of shut-out action. Sara Mittner and Sarah Wood each got their first action of the season in net for the Golden Tornadoes.
After nine non-conference matches to start the season, Geneva will get down to business within the Presidents′ Athletic Conference beginning this weekend. The Golden Tornadoes will travel to Washington & Jefferson for an 11 am match on Saturday before returning home for a match against Saint Vincent College next Wednesday.
