pic-yuan.jpgSpeaker, author, Bible teacher-Christopher Yuan is all of these and more. On Wednesday, September 12, 2012, the minister and author of Out of a Far Country will be coming to Geneva for a full day of lectures regarding his life and the subject of homosexuality.

Once deeply involved in a promiscuous, homosexual lifestyle and experimentation with illegal drugs, Yuan hit bottom when he discovered that he was HIV positive and was arrested for dealing drugs. His redemption from this dark past has spurred him to help others who struggle with similar issues.

Yuan′s visit begins with his testimony during Chapel in Metheny Fieldhouse at 10:10 a.m. Chapel is a weekly devotional time that provides an opportunity for the campus to gather together to praise God, hear His word, and seek His favor and direction. Attendance is required for students and the entire campus is encouraged to participate.

The remainder of the day, Yuan will present a speech on the hermeneutics, or biblical interpretations, surrounding homosexuality; a speech on homosexuality′s nature and nurture debate; and a third speech on the appropriate Christian campus approach toward homosexuality. All three presentations will be in Skye Lounge, located in the Student Center.

Yuan′s first speech, given from 2:30 to 3:25 p.m., is titled ‘Homosexuality: Texts and Hermeneutics.′ The message contrasts traditional interpretations of scripture, which condemns any sex outside of marriage between a husband and a wife, against the opposing interpretation that it does not. Yuan′s knowledge of both Hebrew and Greek languages augments his background in biblical exegesis, allowing him to analyze Old and New Testament passages with clarity and compassion.

The second speech, ‘Homosexuality: Nature or Nurture,′ is from 3:35 to 4:30 p.m. In it, Yuan discusses the root causes of homosexuality. He addresses the scientific studies cited by those who argue for biological or environmental causes, guided by his experience in the medical field.

Yuan will give his third speech, ‘Homosexuality and the Christian Campus,′ from 7:30 to 9 p.m. He will discuss the appropriately Christian response that a college′s staff and students should bear in mind when dealing with homosexual issues in the college environment. This is an important event for student leaders and others involved with residence life.

All of Yuan′s appearances are free and open to the public.
