Beaver Falls, PA - The Geneva women′s soccer team was in need of a victory so in turned to the chocolate with a hard candy shell. Well not exactly, but it was the M & M combination from the Golden Tornadoes that helped Geneva to a 3-0 victory over Saint Vincent on Wednesday night. Geneva moved back to the .500 mark at 5-5-1 overall and 1-1 in the PAC while Saint Vincent lost for only the second time all year and saw its seven game winning streak snapped to fall to 8-2 and 1-1 in the conference.
No team had scored more than one goal in a game against Saint Vincent all season and the Bearcats had allowed just one goal in their last five matches. It only took Geneva ten minutes to solve that stingy Saint Vincent defense when Risa Tillman fired an unassisted goal past Cassie Overly to give the Golden Tornadoes an early 1-0 lead. Geneva only took three shots in the first half and two found the back of the net. The second shot of the half was taken by leading scorer Heidi Mann, who posted her tenth goal of the season in the 24th minute to double the lead.
Geneva managed to out shoot Saint Vincent 8-5 in the second stanza with Heidi Mann scoring her second goal of the game and 11th of the season in the 76th minute to close out the scoring.
While one "M" was scoring a pair of goals the other "M" was keeping goals out of the net. Freshman goalkeeper Anna McMullen made six saves in picking up her fourth shut-out of the season. McMullen entered the match with a goals against average under 1.50 and she improved upon that with her first conference victory as a collegiate goalkeeper.
The Golden Tornadoes will try to take their momentum north on Saturday with a date against Westminster in New Wilmington at 6 pm.
