Beaver Falls, PA - In what has become a concerning trend for the Geneva College men′s soccer team is the fact that Wednesday night marked the sixth consecutive match that the Golden Tornadoes were kept off the board in the first half of play. Fortunately, Geneva has rallied to tie or win four of the six including a thrilling 3-2 comeback victory over Saint Vincent for the first PAC victory of the season. The Golden Tornadoes improved to 5-4-2 overall and 1-0-1 in league play with the victory.
Saint Vincent got the better of play in the first 45 minutes by out shooting Geneva 7-2 and coming away with the only goal in the 36th minute. The Golden Tornadoes, as has become the norm in 2012, regrouped at the half and started its comeback. Teddy Krzywiecki took a feed from Jesse Herman and raced down the right wing before blasting the game tying goal into the net with just less than 20 minutes left in regulation. Seven minutes later David Gerlach scored what would have appeared to be the game winner but the Bearcats were not finished. Gerlach, who got some help from the Geneva training staff in helping him get back on the field from early season injuries, found a loose ball in the box and gave Geneva its first lead of the game in the 77th minute. The Geneva lead was short-lived as the Bearcats tied the game again just four minutes later.
With the score tied at 2-2 and the regulation clock running down, Geneva turned to "Steady" Teddy again and the senior forward responded with his second goal of the game with less than three minutes on the clock. A ball that deflected from Ben Makin found the foot of Krzywiecki, who made no mistake about depositing the game winner into the back of the net.
Geneva out shot Saint Vincent 14-8 in the second half and 16-15 for the game as it took control for the majority of the final stanza. Bryan Butler picked up the victory in goal with seven saves to his credit.
The Golden Tornadoes head to New Wilmington for a Saturday night date with Westminster College in a game scheduled to kickoff at 8 pm.
