New Wilmington, PA - To say the Geneva College women′s tennis team had a tough schedule to close out the 2012 regular season would be somewhat of an understatement. After dropping an 8-1 decision to undefeated Saint Vincent on Saturday, the Golden Tornadoes closed out the regular season slate on Monday with a 9-0 loss to undefeated Westminster. The Bearcats and Titans are tied atop the PAC standings with perfect records prior to the two teams getting together to determine the regular season champion later in the week. As for the Golden Tornadoes, they will move their focus to the PAC individual championships that are scheduled for October 19-20.

With the regular season finale loss at Westminster, Geneva ended the season with an 8-6 overall record and a mark of 5-4 in the conference. Both records are improvements over the final record of 2011.

On Monday, Geneva did not have much luck in doubles play with number one and number three doubles dropping 8-0 decisions. Samantha Jensen and Jen Bullock dropped their number two doubles match by the count of 8-4.

In singles play, the Golden Tornadoes dropped four of the six matches in straight sets but Darcie Shaffer and Alison Beattie both took their opponents to a third set. Shaffer won her first set before dropping the second and the tie-breaking third set 10-5. Beattie rallied to win the second set before falling 10-6 in the tie-breaker. The loss was Beattie′s first singles defeat of the season as she fell to 7-1. Geneva′s top doubles tandem of Courtney Light and Brittany Kress did not compete on Monday despite their 9-1 record in 2012.
