Latrobe, PA - Geneva College head football coach Geno DeMarco was looking to pick up two victories on Saturday afternoon. The 20 year head coach watched the Golden Tornadoes defeat Saint Vincent 30-22 just before it nearly beat itself. Despite four turnovers in the game, Geneva moved its overall record to 2-4 including a 2-2 mark in league play.

"We did everything we could to try and beat ourselves," said DeMarco. "In the end, it was a conference victory on the road and we will take it any way we can get it."

Geneva scored the only points of the first quarter as Rocco Colavecchia continued his touchdown barrage with his ninth score in three in weeks from one yard out. Colavecchia found the end zone again early in the second quarter from four yards away to extend Geneva′s lead to 14-0. Geneva led 17-0 on a Bryan Visingardi 22 yard field goal before Saint Vincent managed to get on the board with back to back scores to cut Geneva′s lead to 17-9. Geneva got some momentum heading into the locker room as Visingardi connected from 32 yards away as time expired on the second quarter clock.

Saint Vincent got as close as it would get with an early third quarter score cutting Geneva′s lead to 15 following a missed two point conversion. Geneva then capped its most impressive drive of the day with a two-yard connection from Colavecchia to Josh Guiser. Geneva′s 11 play, 73 yard journey extended the lead to 27-15. Following another Saint Vincent score with five minutes left to play, Visingardi closed out the game with his third field goal of the game from 37 yards away.

Geneva nearly doubled Saint Vincent′s yardage to the tune of 422-240. The Golden Tornadoes also picked up 24 first downs in the victory but did not do a good job taking care of the football. Geneva lost two fumbles and threw a pair of interceptions in the victory. Zach Hayward threw for 174 yards on 18-29 with Jordan Curry the main recipient with seven grabs for 77 yards. On the ground, Colavecchia rushed for 91 yards on 20 carries to lead the charge.

Ryan Fronius and Dillon Goodell each picked up seven tackles in the game while Geneva picked up a pair of interceptions of its own. Tucker Nuetzel and Thomas Benyo each helped Geneva′s cause with picks. "We did what we had to do to get a win," said DeMarco. "We have a great opportunity in front of us against the first place team at our place in front of a packed homecoming crowd next Saturday."

Geneva will indeed welcome in undefeated and first place Waynesburg to Reeves Field next Saturday at 4 pm for a homecoming kick-off.
