Bethany, WV - Geneva College cross country coach Brian Yowler and the Golden Tornadoes had hopes of claiming their first PAC title on Saturday morning but the women′s team came up just short despite a solid effort across the board. On the men′s side, Nick Edinger was hardly a disappointment with his third place finish and first team All-Conference performance.
The PAC Championship meet was held at Bethany College and it was the men that took the starting line first on Saturday. As a team, the Golden Tornadoes finished in a sixth place tie but it was senior Nick Edinger′s time to shine on the PAC stage. Edinger finished third overall finishing behind a pair of NCAA national qualifiers. He posted a time of 26:25 in claiming first team All-Conference honors. Geneva′s next highest finisher was Owen Struck′s 36th position and a time of 28:55. Charles Parker crossed the line in 42nd place with a mark of 29:06. Geneva′s team finished with 159 points and tied Thomas More for sixth place. Saint Vincent (44 pts) edged out Grove City (58 pts) for the conference title on the men′s side.
Grove City′s women did not let Geneva creep into its perennial winner′s circle. The Wolverines took home the PAC crown with a 35 point effort including four top ten finishes. Geneva′s Sarah-Noel Meek finished third overall with a time of 23:20 with teammate Alayna Merkle turning in a sixth place finish with a mark of 23:41. Both Meek and Merkle claimed PAC first team All-Conference honors. Shannon Rech received second team honors with an eighth place finish and a time of 24:04. Emily Hoobler was an honorable mention All-Conference pick with a 17th place spot. Rounding out Geneva′s top five was Anna Kluitenberg and a 33rd place spot.
Geneva′s top runners will now turn their sights on the NCAA Regional meet coming up in two weeks with an opportunity to qualify for the NCAA Division III national meet later in November.
