Beaver Falls, PA - The Geneva College men′s soccer team needed a win and some help on the final day of the regular season on Saturday. Earlier in the day, it got the help it needed when Grove City upended Westminster, which set the stage for senior night at Reeves Field. The Golden Tornadoes took care of their own business with a 4-1 victory over Thiel College that secured a first round home play-off game in the PAC tournament beginning next week. Geneva moved its record to 9-5-3 overall and 5-1-2 in the conference, which was good enough to secure the second overall seed in the 2012 tournament. The Golden Tornadoes will open the tournament on home on Tuesday against Grove City College.

It didn′t take long for Geneva to grab the momentum as Garrett Masters found the back of the net just 39 seconds into the match off of a feed from John Shipley. Nine minutes later, Daniel Cox extended the lead to 2-0 as it was Masters who grabbed the assist. The Golden Tornadoes made the score 3-0 when Max Flick and Keenan Barr hooked up on a gorgeous give and go that Flick deposited into the back of the net. Just prior to the halftime whistle, Thiel was able to strike for its only goal of the match but it would be too little, too late.

Teddy Krzywiecki celebrated senior night with the only second half goal that proved to be an insurance tally for the Golden Tornadoes. Bryan Butler started the game in goal before senior Evan Biedenbach made his triumphant return to the net after recovering from an ACL tear a year ago. Biedenbach, playing with his other eight senior teammates in the regular season finale, made two saves in his return.

Geneva dominated play and out shot Thiel 24-4 for the match including 18 shots on goal. The Golden Tornadoes will host a Grove City team in the first round of the play-offs that played Geneva to a 0-0 tie just two weeks ago on College Hill. Thomas More will be the top seed and will host Westminster in round one with the winners meeting at the highest remaining seed. If the seeds stay true after the first round, Geneva will travel to Thomas More for a rematch of the 2011 title game that saw Thomas More defeat Geneva 3-2.
