Grove City, PA - Not much went the way of the Geneva College football team on Saturday night. The Golden Tornadoes dropped a 26-8 decision at Grove City in a game that wasn′t as close as the score would indicate. The loss dropped Geneva to 2-7 overall including a 2-5 mark in league play.

Geneva managed just 181 yards of total offense while Grove City racked up 413 yards. Rocco Colavecchia was forced to play the whole game at quarterback as Zack Hayward′s game time playing status turned into a no-go on Saturday night. Colavecchia did what he could as he rushed for 148 yards on 15 carries but it wasn′t nearly enough to keep up with the Wolverines.

Grove City got on the board in the first quarter on an eight play, 35 yard drive that resulted in a 40 yard field goal. Early in the second quarter, the Wolverines got into the end zone after a six play, 40 yard drive. The extra point was missed and Grove City held a 9-0 lead. Just before halftime, the Wolverines scored again and took a 16-0 lead into the break.

Geneva scored its only points of the game late in the third quarter when Dylan Jones′ three yard touchdown capped a nine play, 38 yard drive. Colavecchia scored on the two-point conversion to cut the lead in half. Grove City took the wind out of Geneva′s sails with a 68 yard scoring drive early in the fourth and then ended the scoring with a 34 yard field goal late in the quarter.

Grove City′s Shane Kaclik rushed for 166 yards and two touchdowns on 28 carries as Grove City finished the game with 236 yards on the ground. "We did not have an answer for their running game," said Geneva head coach Geno DeMarco. "When you can′t move the ball consistently on offense and can′t get off the field on defense, it makes for a very bad recipe. We got beat soundly tonight and we will go back to work and get this thing fixed."

Geneva will have to get things fixed quickly as Washington & Jefferson comes to town next Saturday night. The Golden Tornadoes close out the 2012 season on November 10th with a 1 pm kickoff against rival Westminster College. After playing six of eight games on the road, Geneva finishes the season with a pair of home games at Reeves Field.
