Grad_bug.jpgGeneva College′s graduate counseling program announces exciting changes that now make earning a master′s degree in counseling and pursuing national certification and State licensing even more convenient for today′s busy students.

A spring term start date has been added, so now students can begin the program in January of 2013. The traditional fall term start of August is still offered. A full-time format including a three-credit practicum and a six-credit internship is available, which enables students to complete the program in five semesters. Geneva also offers the flexibility to complete the program in a part-time format with completion in two to four years.

In addition, the student enrollment cap has been lifted from the program. Previously, only 20 spaces in the program were available. Now, Geneva′s graduate counseling program is prepared to serve a greater number of students interested in becoming professional counselors.

And beginning this spring, Geneva will offer all formats and timeframes of the Master of Arts in Counseling degree in a second location-the Regional Learning Alliance (RLA) in Cranberry Township. The Regional Learning Alliance has been called the Greater Pittsburgh area′s premier learning center and the nation′s largest collaborative campus. The LEED-certified green building, located in Cranberry Woods, offers college students the best of a traditional college campus, with the modern amenities of a first-class executive training center.

Classes will also continue to be offered at the main campus location in Beaver Falls.

Geneva′s counseling program has three specialized areas: Marriage and Family, Clinical Mental Health and School Counseling. The program offers the professional preparation needed to become a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) under the accreditation standards of the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).

The mission of Geneva′s counseling program is to equip, educate and train students with the knowledge, skill and personal awareness necessary to serve as godly professional counselors. Professors challenge students analyze human behavior and develop counseling expertise within the context of Christian faith, using current texts written by both secular and Christian authors. Students develop comprehensive knowledge and understanding of counseling theory, mental illness, human development, research, cultural diversity, ethics and assessment.
