Houghton, NY - The Geneva College women′s basketball team will be trying to put a 3-22 season from a year ago as far in the rear view mirror as it can to start the 2012-13 season. On Friday afternoon, the Golden Tornadoes opened their new campaign at Houghton College with a 44-30 loss to Pitt-Bradford.

Geneva shot just 29% (11-38) from the field for the game. Geneva watched Houghton sprint out to an early lead and led the Golden Tornadoes 29-13 at the half. The second half did not turn out much better for Geneva as it finished the game with a team total of 27 turnovers.

Leah Prisuta, returning from a season ending injury a year ago, was Geneva′s lone scorer in double figures with 12 points in the game.

"We are a young group," said head coach Lori Wynn. "We threw a freshman point guard into the fire after less than a week of practice and we will feel some growing pains along the way. We have a lot to learn as a team but we will keep getting better as the year goes along."

Geneva will be right back in action at the Houghton tournament on Saturday as the Golden Tornadoes will face Penn State Greater Allegheny at 10:30 am. Geneva opens its home schedule next Tuesday night at 7 pm when it faces Penn State Beaver.
