Canton, OH - The Geneva College volleyball team got back on the court on Friday evening after a two-week hiatus. Competing at the NCCAA East Regional tournament at Malone University, the Golden Tornadoes got their feet wet in day one′s pool play competition. Geneva opened play on Friday with a 3-0 victory over Nyack before dropping a 3-0 decision to Mt. Vernon in match two. The Golden Tornadoes moved their overall record to 23-12 and will match up with Houghton College in Saturday′s quarter-final match at 10 am.

Geneva opened up with a straight set win against Nyack by scores of 25-8, 26-24, 25-9. Kristland McCracken led the offense with ten kills while Ashley Davis checked in with nine and Maggie Bowersox finished with six kills. Lynsey Gugino posted a team best 16 assists in the victory with Deanna Briody finishing with 13 assists.

Geneva dropped a straight set match to Mt. Vernon Nazarene to close out the evening by scores of 21-25, 18-25, 16-25. Davis led the offense with ten kills with Bowersox finishing the night with eight throw downs. Briody had 16 assists and Gugino chipped in with 12 assists. Briody also led the defense with 16 digs.

The Golden Tornadoes will open Saturday′s knock-out play with a quarter-final match against Houghton College at 10 am. The winner of the morning match will face Malone University in the semi-finals at noon. The championship match is scheduled for 3 pm with the regional winner advancing directly to the NCCAA national tournament at the end of the month.
