Beaver Falls, PA - The NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association) announced its All-Regional teams for men′s and women′s soccer as well as volleyball. The Golden Tornadoes had seven players recognized as first team honorees with a trio of volleyball players also listed as honorable mention selections.
Outside hitter Ashley Davis and middle hitter Maggie Bowersox were both chosen as All-Region performers for the 2012 season. Davis led the Golden Tornadoes with 407 kills (3.45/set) with Bowersox posting 332 kills (2.59/set). Davis also came away with 334 digs on the season with Bowersox leading the way with 128 blocks. Teammates Paige Banyas, Deanna Briody and Kristland McCracken were all named Eastern regional honorable mention selections.
Heidi Mann rewrote the women′s soccer record book in 2012 and was named a first team All-region selection along with older sister Elise Mann. Heidi scored 18 goals, which was the most by any freshman in Geneva women′s soccer history. Elise finished the 2012 season with seven goals and a team best five assists along the way.
Geneva′s men′s soccer team, which finished the season as the Presidents′ Athletic Conference runner-up and came within one game of advancing to the NCCAA national tournament, had three players represented on the All-region first team. Bryan Butler was simply brilliant in his sophomore season in goal for the Golden Tornadoes. Posting ten wins, Butler registered eight shut-outs, which was the third highest single season total in school history. Making 102 saves, Butler finished the season with a 1.07 goals against average. One of Butler′s defensive helpers Jon Mathoslah was also named a first team selection. Along with his defensive capabilities, Mathoslah picked up two goals and an assist in 2012. Finally, Jeb Nash was also a first team selection after leading Geneva offensively with seven goals and five assists.
