Beaver Falls, PA - In what was a coaching reunion of sorts, former Geneva College head coach Jerry Slocum and the Youngstown State University Penguins hosted present head coach Jeff Santarsiero and Geneva College on Thursday night as the Golden Tornadoes took a big step up in class with a NCAA Division I challenge. At the end of the night, it was YSU that came away with a 93-50 victory to keep Geneva winless on the season at 0-8.

Slocum coached Geneva College from 1987-1996 and still owns the highest winning percentage in school history. Santarsiero was alongside Slocum for eight of the nine years as his top assistant and has now spent the last 17 years as the school′s head coach. Thursday′s meeting was the second between the schools and the friendly rivals in the past four years.

Thursday′s match-up was fairly one sided with YSU jumping out to a 47-24 lead at the half and extending the lead from there to as many as many as 46 points in the second half before settling for the 43 point victory.

Geneva shot 37% from the field and while the Penguins sizzled to a 51% mark from the field for the game. The Golden Tornadoes did knock down eight three-point field goals led by Zac Rorick′s 4-6 effort from beyond the arc. Rorick led all Geneva scorers with 14 points for the game as the only player to reach double figures for the Golden Tornadoes. Youngstown State got points from 12 different players and was led by Bobby Hain′s 16 points off the bench.

The Golden Tornadoes get back into conference play on Saturday and return home for the first time in two weeks when they host Waynesburg University at Metheny Fieldhouse at 7:30 pm.
