Beaver Falls, PA - It was a long time in coming but the Geneva College men′s basketball team finally picked up its first victory of the season with a 68-62 victory over Waynesburg University on Saturday night. The Golden Tornadoes moved to 1-8 and 1-2 in the Presidents′ Athletic Conference. Meanwhile, Waynesburg fell to 0-4 in league play.

Geneva jumped out to an early lead and took a 33-22 lead into the halftime break. Geneva held Waynesburg to only eight first half field goals while the Golden Tornadoes shot 39% including four three -point field goals. In the second half, Waynesburg tried to get back into the game and with 6:41 remaining in regulation cut the lead to just three points at 51-48. The Yellow Jackets would never get any closer at the Golden Tornadoes closed things out by scoring ten of the next 13 points to open up a ten point lead.

Matt Lorello led the Geneva charge with 16 points while Jordan Harbison continued his hot shooting from long distance with a 4-5 effort from three-point range. Harbison finished with 13 points while Tyler Damazo posted ten points and nine rebounds off the bench.

Waynesburg was led by Kenny Klase′s 16 points off the bench with Jacob Fleegle coming up with 15 in the loss for the Yellow Jackets.

The Golden Tornadoes needed a victory in the worst way as they will now take three weeks off before competing at the Wooster College Tournament on December 28-29. Geneva returns home on January 2nd for a date with Thomas More College at 7:30 pm.
