Beaver Falls, PA - Geneva College has been a full-fledged member of the Presidents′ Athletic Conference now for two years. During that stint, several student-athletes have been honored with Player of the Week awards. On Monday, freshman Heidi Mann became the first Geneva student-athlete to receive Player of the Week honors in two different sports.
Mann, who received PAC honors back in October for her work on the soccer field, was named the PAC women′s basketball player of the week for her effort on Saturday afternoon. Mann helped lead the Golden Tornadoes to their first victory of the season on Saturday with a 64-55 decision over Houghton College. Houghton, which entered the game as the eighth ranked team in NCCAA Division I, lost to the Golden Tornadoes for the 13th consecutive game dating back to 2003.
Mann led Geneva with 20 points to go along with her eight rebounds, four assists and three steals. For the season, Mann is averaging 10.4 points per game and 5.3 rebounds per game. Enjoying an historic freshman season, Mann has already left her mark on the women′s soccer program with a record breaking 18 goals in 2012, which was the most by any freshman in school history.
Geneva enters the Christmas break with an overall record of 1-8 and will be back in action on December 28-29 when it hosts a four-team team tournament at Metheny Fieldhouse. The Golden Tornadoes will meet Wooster and Franciscan during the two-day event. Geneva will host Thomas More on January 2nd when it returns to conference action.
