On behalf of Geneva College, Provost Dr. Kenneth Carson presented $5,000 each to the Police and Fire Departments of the City of Beaver Falls. The presentation was made during the City Council meeting held on the evening of Tuesday, January 8, 2013.city_hall.jpg

This year marks the third in a row that Geneva has made a monetary contribution to Beaver Falls. In 2011, the college funded a study regarding a cogeneration plant. Geneva also previously made a $10,000 contribution to the city′s police and fire departments in 2012.

Dr. Carson identified several ways the college regularly contributes to Beaver Falls, both financially and through community service. These includes rental inspection fees, payroll taxes, property taxes from college employees who live in the city, and jobs for over 300 full-time employees. In addition, he said, college students frequently volunteer at social service agencies such as Tiger Pause, and every first-year student provides a day of service during orientation. Also, Geneva offers the use of facilities, such as for Community Safety Day, and provides entertainment through sports, music ensembles and theater productions.

According to a study conducted by the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities, the economic impact of Geneva College on the state is $63.6 million dollars. Much of this impact is realized in Beaver Falls and Beaver County.

"Geneva is proud to be part of the city, and we are delighted that we are able to participate in a variety of ways with and for the city," Dr. Carson said.
