Waynesburg, PA - The Geneva College women′s basketball team played a complete second half at Waynesburg on Saturday as the Yellow Jackets out scored Geneva by just five points in the second stanza. However, the Golden Tornadoes managed only three first half field goals in falling behind 31-9 at halftime. As a result, Geneva′s second half resurgence was not enough to avoid a 72-45 loss at Waynesburg. The Golden Tornadoes dropped to 3-18 overall and 1-13 in the PAC. Waynesburg, which swept the season series from Geneva, improved to 10-11 overall and 9-5 in league play.

Geneva′s first half sealed its fate as it shot just 3-27 from the field and 0-9 from three-point range in the first 20 minutes. Geneva′s first basket of the game came at the 8:35 mark of the first half as Waynesburg had already built an 18-3 lead at the time. Waynesburg didn′t exactly burn up the nets in the first half at 33% from the field but its defense forced 11 Geneva turnovers.

The Golden Tornadoes tried to salvage something from the trip with a 36 point second half that featured Geneva shooting 57% from the field and 3-5 from long distance. Heidi Mann was Geneva′s lone player to reach double figures with 15 points and five rebounds. Waynesburg got points from 13 different players with Paige Pearce leading the way with 13 points.

The Golden Tornadoes return home on Wednesday night to face Saint Vincent at 5:30 pm. Following a road game at Grove City next Saturday, Geneva will close out the season with home games against W & J and Westminster in the final week of the season.
