Waynesburg, PA - Throughout the 2012-13 men′s basketball season, the Geneva College men′s basketball team has been struggling through small stretches that inevitably cost itself games. The same formula held true on Saturday afternoon in Geneva′s 82-69 loss at Waynesburg. The Golden Tornadoes fell to 2-18 overall and 2-10 in the PAC as Waynesburg gained a season split with Geneva that kept the Golden Tornadoes winless on the road.

Geneva got off to a good start in the first five minutes while opening up an 11-6 lead. The first of two significant runs gave the Yellow Jackets a lead they would never relinquish the rest of the day. Waynesburg scored the next 13 points to open up a 19-11 lead 11 minutes into the game. The Golden Tornadoes battled back to within three points and when Matt Lorello connected on a lay-up at the 7:34 mark, Geneva trailed 21-18. For the next three minutes, Geneva was held scoreless as Waynesburg scored 12 straight points to stretch its lead to 33-18. The Golden Tornadoes trailed 39-25 at the half and would never get to within single digits throughout the second half.

Waynesburg shot 50% (17-34) from the field in the first half and held Geneva to only ten first half baskets. For the game, Geneva turned the ball over 20 times that led to 22 Waynesburg points. Another key to the game was the depth of Waynesburg. The Yellow Jackets bench outscored Geneva 13-0 in the first half and 27-13 for the game. The Golden Tornadoes did get balanced scoring from its starters. Matt Lorello led the way with 18 points on 8-12 shooting from the field. Jordan Harbison connected on five three-point field goals and scored 15 points along with Keynon Jackson. Jackson also pulled down a team best eight rebounds. Tyler Damazo did provide Geneva′s only punch off the bench with 12 second half points.

The Golden Tornadoes have five games remaining in the regular season with four of those coming on the home floor. Geneva′s final chance to win a road game in 2013 will come next Saturday at Grove City. In the meantime, Geneva will welcome Saint Vincent to Metheny Fieldhouse on Wednesday night at 7:30 pm. The Golden Tornadoes close out the regular season with home games against Penn State Beaver, W & J and Westminster in the final week of the season.
