Alliance, OH - Although the weather was quite cold on the outside, the action at the indoor track and field meet at the University Of Mount Union on Saturday was quite hot. Geneva′s men and women competed against some of the region′s top competition and came away with some very solid individual efforts.

As has become the pattern, it was the work of Geneva′s distance runners that headlined the afternoon. On the men′s side it was the work of Nick Edinger and for the women it was Sarah-Noel Meek. Both distance runners brought home the top prize in their respective 5000 meter events. Edinger lapped the field and broke his own school record with a finishing time of 15:34.07. He currently ranks #7 in the NCCAA. As for Meek, she also qualified for the NCCAA with her first place performance. Meek, who qualified in the 3000 meter event two weeks ago, is currently ranked eighth in the NCCAA in the 5000 meter event.

Noel′s teammate Anna Kluitenberg continues her constant improvement. Kluitenberg ran a personal best time of 19:57.25 to finish fourth overall and gain qualification for the NCCAA national meet. In the women′s one-mile event, Alayna Merkle improved her personal best time with a third place finish in a time of 5:27.16. Merkle has now qualified for the NCCAA in both the one mile and the 3000 meter events. In the field event highlight of the day, Sarah Williams qualified for the NCCAA national meet with a personal best throw of 35-03.75 in the shot put, which was good enough for sixth place.

Other highlights on the men′s side included Josh Guiser′s work in the 60 meter race. Finishing sixth overall with a final time of 7.36, Guiser was just 0.02 seconds away from qualifying for the NCCAA meet. Aaron Marga also had a solid showing in the 60 meter event with a personal best time of 7.60. Matt Logan turned in the top performance in the men′s field events with a personal best throw of 39-04.00 for 14th place. Teammate Rick Truesdell finished 12th overall with a throw of 39-07.25.

The indoor track team will be back in action next Friday when it visits Baldwin-Wallace in the final tune-up before the NCCAA national meet on February 15-16.
