Beaver Falls, PA - The Geneva College women′s soccer team was awarded the NCCAA Scholar Team Award for their academic excellence during the 2012 academic fall semester. The NCCAA Scholar Team Award is given to teams that have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.40 on a 4.00 scale. As a team the Women′s Soccer ladies reached a 3.49 GPA making them one of 62 teams in all fall sports across the National Christian College Athletic Association.

At Geneva College, our athletic department staff challenges our student-athletes to reach their potential and become excellent athletically, academically and spiritually. Linda Sumner has been the Head Coach of the Women′s Soccer program for six seasons now. "At Geneva College it has always been a top priority to not just have success on the field but also in the classroom," says Sumner. "It is nice to have reached a place where you can see on paper how hard these young ladies have put forth to excel and it′s exciting to be part of an institution that sets up an environment to excel in all areas of life."

On top of this achievement in the classroom the women′s soccer team found themselves turning a leaf on the soccer field. In 2011, the team ended with an overall record of 6-12-1 and a conference (Presidents′ Athletic Conference) record of 2-7. 2012 was a whole different story going to NCCAA East Regional post season and ending with an overall record of 9-9-1 and a conference record of 5-4.
