Beaver Falls, PA - It had been a struggle for the Geneva College women′s basketball team for most of the season. On Saturday night, the season came to an end with a 53-44 loss to Westminster College. The Golden Tornadoes ended their campaign the same way they did a year ago with an overall record of 3-22. Geneva finished the PAC schedule with a conference mark of 1-17.
The Golden Tornadoes opened the game by hitting four of their first six shots and led for the majority of the first stanza. However after heating up early in the game, Geneva then made just one of its next 12 shots. The Golden Tornadoes did get to halftime with a 23-22 lead.
When Westminster′s Katie Hughes connected on a lay-up at the 14:18 mark of the second half, the Titans took a 29-27 lead and would never allow Geneva to regain control. The Titans lead see-sawed from six points to four points for most of the second half before pulling away from the foul line as they finished the game with their biggest lead of the night at nine points.
Freshman Heidi Mann finished off a solid freshman campaign with a team best 16 points as the only Geneva player to reach double figures. Seniors Leah Prisuta and Chelsea D′Urso combined for 12 points in their final game for the Golden Tornadoes. Chelsea Kauffman chipped in with nine points for Geneva.
Westminster got a team high 21 points from Katie Hughes on 9-15 shooting from the field. While Geneva′s season comes to an end, the Titans will travel to Waynesburg University for a first-round play-off match up coming up on Tuesday night. Westminster, the number five seed, will face the fourth seeded Yellow Jackets in the first round of the eight-team tournament.
