Our Town is a community service opportunity for students of Geneva College sponsored by the Geneva College Student Union (GCSU) each semester. For this program, students volunteer both on campus and at a number of surrounding locations. The spring semester Our Town will be held on April 13, 2013 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The GCSU has initiated a few changes to the program this semester. Participants will be pre-assigned to one of several job sites based on skill sets, such as painting, construction, moving or landscaping. Job sites include Geneva′s outdoor volleyball court, City House, Beaver County Christian School (BCCS), Tiger Pause, Beaver County Association for the Blind, Beaver County Humane Society, Beulah Baptist Church, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Beaver County.

For Our Town participants, a continental breakfast will be served in the Brig at 8:30 a.m. Students will receive water bottles, brochure packets and t-shirts.

Following the site work, the participants will gather for a picnic-style lunch at the grill located outside of Clarke Hall. Chick-fil-A sandwiches, hotdogs, hamburgers and drinks will be provided.

The GCSU partnered with the Geneva′s national chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (GC PRSSA) for planning and promotion.

"Our Town is a great tradition that we are proud to carry on and participate in," said Ben Butler, Chapter President of the GC PRSSA. "The Beaver Falls community appreciates the opportunity to connect with students as well as work together with them to complete various projects within their organizations."

To sign up for Our Town, stop by the GCSU office in the Student Center or email bsrbutler@gmail.com and include name, cell phone number and appropriate skills.

Walk-in participants are also welcome. They will be assigned to a job site upon arrival.
