Kissimmee, FL - The Geneva College softball team is enjoying some great offensive success through the first week of the 2013 season. The Golden Tornadoes exploded again in Saturday′s opener with a 16-7 victory over Skidmore College. The offense wasn′t able to keep pace with Simpson College in a 12-4 six-inning loss. The split pushed Geneva′s overall record to 3-7 in the first ten games of the season.

Dayna Hicks put Geneva on the board in the first inning against Skidmore after drawing a walk and stealing a pair of bases before scoring on a wild pitch. Leah Prisuta began her career day with a second inning run scoring single to extend the lead to 2-0. Geneva′s defense helped Skidmore post seven runs in the second inning to open up a five-run advantage. Coming right back, Geneva tied the score with five runs in the third highlighted by a Prisuta three-run triple. Samantha Johnson also came up with the first of two RBI singles. A pair of bases loaded walks to Lori Deem and Johnson in the fourth put Geneva up 9-7. A run in the sixth and six more in the seventh put the game away. A two-run double from Prisuta completed a 3-5 day with six RBI. Samantha Johnson allowed five earned runs in picking up her second victory of the season.

Game two started with Geneva posting a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. Christina Fuqua came up with an RBI single and the Golden Tornadoes took advantage of a Simpson College error to score their second run of the inning. Simpson rallied for four runs in the second and two more in the third to open up a 6-2 lead. The four-run deficit became two when Geneva scored a pair in the fifth. Laura Beck knocked in one run with a base hit and Ashley Davis′ ground out scored Leah Prisuta. Simpson broke the game open with a six run sixth inning.

Geneva will close out its Florida swing on Monday with games against Transylvania and Mt. Union beginning at 9 am.
