Kissimmee, FL - The last time the Geneva College softball team took the field it was at the 2012 NCAA regional tournament. The defending Presidents′ Athletic Conference champions raised the curtain on the 2013 season on Monday and didn′t exactly pick up where they left off. Geneva dropped a doubleheader at the Rebel Spring Games to Aurora College and Bluffton College. The Golden Tornadoes dropped a 6-1 decision to Aurora before falling 6-2 to Bluffton.

Freshman hurler Samantha Johnson made her collegiate debut on Monday and was the hard luck loser after allowing just two earned runs but was the victim of four Geneva errors. A three-run homer in the top of the first put Geneva down 3-0 before the game was ten minutes old. Ashley Davis′ RBI single in the bottom of the first would be Geneva′s lone offensive production in game one. Geneva finished with just four hits in the opening game loss. Johnson went the distance and allowed two earned runs on eight hits.

Geneva′s offense didn′t provide much more punch in the night cap with just two runs on five hits. Davis and Laura Beck each picked up a pair including Beck′s RBI double in the fourth inning that pulled Geneva to within a run at the time. Bluffton scored single runs in the first three innings and broke the game open with a three spot in the fourth. Ashley Davis took the loss in her season debut in the circle.

The Golden Tornadoes will continue their southern swing on Tuesday with games against Muskingum and Presentation.
