Beaver Falls, PA - On a rare sunny day in the spring of 2013, the Geneva College track and field team took advantage of the blue skies to compete at the Cal U Early Bird Meet at California University of Pennsylvania. Several student-athletes turned in personal best performances but it was freshman Jacob Mellinger that took home the only first place finish of the day.

Mellinger, who has already qualified for the NCCAA national meet, turned in a personal best time of 51.36 to win the 400 meter race. He also turned in a personal best time for a fifth place finish in the 200 meter event. Teammates Aaron Marga and Nate Dunn also turned in personal best times in the 200 meter race. In men′s distance action, Nick Edinger got his eraser out once again to rewrite yet another Geneva record. This time, Edinger posted a school record in the 10K by 30 seconds. He is currently ranked seventh in NCAA Division III in the 10K event. On the field, Tyler French qualified in both the discus and shot put while freshman Jordan Rupert also turned in a solid qualifying performance in the javelin.

In women′s action, Alayna Merkle′s personal best in the 1500 meter race was good enough for fourth place while both Sarah-Noel Meek and Anna Kluitenberg qualified in the 10K race with fourth and fifth place finishes respectively. Kayla Jackson qualified for the NCCAA national meet with a personal best in the javelin while Katherine Michalak appeared to be in mid-season form with a qualifying performance in the shot put.

Geneva will enjoy a weekend away from action before getting back to work on April 6th at Mount Union.
