Greenville, PA - The Geneva College baseball team was hoping to grab some revenge from Thiel College following a series opening loss on Friday. The Golden Tornadoes got their chance on Saturday but were unable to come away with a win in a doubleheader loss to the Tomcats. Thiel came away with a 10-1 victory in game one and hung on for a 4-3 victory in the night cap. The losses dropped Geneva′s overall record to 7-13 including a 2-6 mark in the PAC.

Geneva had nine hits in game one including two each from Garrett Swanson, Mike Jeffreys and Ryan McGonigle. However, the Golden Tornadoes could not contain a Thiel offense that had 17 hits in game one. Caleb Kilgore was handed the loss after four innings of work with Zach Ackerman finishing the last two innings. Geneva′s lone run came in the seventh inning on a Mike Jeffreys RBI base hit.

Game two opened with Thiel jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Geneva posted a run in the third on Jeffrey′s RBI double. With Geneva trailing 4-1, the Golden Tornadoes struck for a pair of runs in the sixth inning. Andy Santana′s sacrifice fly plated TJ Lambert before Adam Teets delivered a base hit that scored Dan Jeffreys. The offense was unable to mount a challenge in the seventh inning.

Geneva′s ten-hit attack was highlighted by two each from Mike Jeffreys and Tyler Damazo. Eight different Geneva starters had at least one hit in the night cap. Mike Jeffreys fell to 2-3 on the season with a complete game loss. Jeffreys allowed three earned runs and seven hits while striking out ten in the game.

The Golden Tornadoes get back to work on Monday with a 2 pm doubleheader at 33rd Street Field against Grove City College.
