Latrobe, PA - After waiting patiently for the Western Pennsylvania storms to pass through, Geneva College and Saint Vincent hooked up in a great baseball game. However, the outcome for the Golden Tornadoes was not what they had hoped in a 4-3 walk-off loss to the Bearcats. The loss dropped Geneva to 9-14 overall and 4-7 in conference play.

Doug Sanson for Geneva and Joey Fearer hooked up in an old fashioned pitcher′s duel for most of the game. Neither team could dent the scoreboard through the first six innings of action. In the bottom of the seventh, Saint Vincent finally touched Sanson up for a couple of runs. Sanson went 6 1/3 innings and allowed just those two earned runs on four hits. After Mike Jeffreys came on to complete the seventh inning, Geneva′s offense got on track and posted a three spot to grab its first lead of the game. Jeffreys put himself in line for the victory when he launched a three-run homer over the centerfield fence to give Geneva a one-run lead.

In the bottom of the inning, Saint Vincent came right back with the tying run sending the game to the ninth inning tied at 3-3. Geneva went down in order in the top of the ninth and Saint Vincent got the game winner on a walk-off triple after a lead-off walk yielded by Tanner Propst.

Geneva had eight hits in the game including a 3-4 day from TJ Lambert. Ryan McGonigle had a pair of hits and Mike Jeffreys had the big three-run blast that gave Geneva its short-lived lead in the eighth inning.

Geneva will open a three-game series with Waynesburg with a home game on Friday at 4 pm before traveling to Waynesburg for a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.
