Beaver Falls, PA - For the second time in four days the Geneva College baseball team handed an opponent its first conference loss of the season. On Saturday, the Golden Tornadoes upended previously unbeaten Washington & Jefferson and just four days later Geneva split a doubleheader with first place and previously undefeated Saint Vincent College. After dropping the first game 5-1, the Golden Tornadoes turned the tables and picked up a 5-1 victory of their own. Geneva improved to 7-10 overall and 2-3 in conference play while Saint Vincent moved to 6-7 overall and 3-1 in the league.

Saint Vincent pushed a pair of runs across in the second inning of game one to open the scoring. After another two spot in the top of the fourth, Geneva got its only run of the game on a TJ Lambert RBI single. Geneva finished game one with seven hits including a pair from Aaron Witman. Zach Ackerman took the loss with four innings of work and four earned runs allowed on eight hits. Drew Nichols allowed just one earned run in three innings of relief.

Game two started much better for Geneva which posted single runs in each of the first two innings. Lambert′s first inning RBI single got the Golden Tornadoes on the board and a Garrett Swanson run scoring double in the second extended the lead. The Golden Tornadoes would post another run in the fifth inning on another Lambert base hit. Two more runs came across in the sixth inning when Swanson struck again for a two run knock. Geneva′s run support was more than enough for ace Mike Jeffreys. Jeffreys pitched six scoreless innings and allowed just four hits while striking out 11 batters. Jeffreys leads the PAC in ERA and strikeouts while picking up his second win of the season. Geneva got two hits each from Swanson, Lambert, Jeffreys and Jeremy Herzog.

The Golden Tornadoes will begin a three-game series with Thiel on Friday with a single game at 4 pm. Geneva will travel to Greenville for a 1pm doubleheader on Saturday.
