Bethany, WV - The Geneva College baseball team took its act to West Virginia on Friday and certainly remembered to take the bat bag on the trip. The Golden Tornadoes exploded for 11 runs and 15 hits in an 11-9 victory over Bethany College. With the victory, Geneva improved to 13-18 overall and 8-11 in conference play.

Geneva tied the game 1-1 in the fourth inning on a ground ball double play but that was just the beginning of bigger things to come. The Bison regained the lead with a run in the bottom of the inning, but Geneva responded with a three-spot that began a stretch of the two teams combining for 14 runs in an inning and a half. In the Geneva fifth, a Garrett Swanson double plated a run followed by a two run single from Aaron Witman that gave Geneva a 4-2 short-lived lead. Bethany responded with five runs in the bottom of the inning but the Golden Tornadoes again out did Bethany with six more runs in the sixth.

The sixth inning rally included a two-run double from Andy Santana, a Jeremy Herzog two-run double and a two-run homer from Mike Jeffreys. Bethany tried to rally with a pair of runs in the eighth but the Geneva bullpen closed things down nicely.

Caleb Kilgore started the game and went 4 1/3 innings before turning things over to Doug Sanson. Sanson picked up the victory with three innings of work and allowing just two earned runs. Tanner Propst got the last five outs with scoreless relief to grab his second save of the season.

Herzog led a Geneva offense that featured at least one hit from every starter. Jeffreys, Ryan McGonigle, Shane Wingard and Santana each had two hits.

Geneva and Bethany will close out their three-game series on Saturday with a doubleheader at 33rd Street beginning at 1 pm.
