Beaver Falls, PA - The Geneva College baseball team got just what the doctor ordered on Monday with a doubleheader sweep over Grove City at 33rd Street Field. The Golden Tornadoes took game one 7-0 and picked up an 8-3 decision in game two. The sweep moved Geneva′s overall record to 9-13 including a 4-6 mark in the PAC.

Ian Macdonald kept the Wolverines in check throughout the first game as the freshman picked up his third win of the season with 5.2 innings of shut-out work. Macdonald yielded just three hits with three strikeouts along the way. Tanner Propst came on to record the final four outs without allowing a hit.

Geneva′s offense unleashed a 14-hit attack against Grove City with eight different players getting at least one hit. Tyler Damazo and Jeremy Herzog had three hits each and Ryan McGonigle and Adam Teets had a pair of hits.

Geneva broke things open with four runs in the second inning highlighted by a McGonigle RBI double and a two-run Herzog single. Herzog came through again with a run scoring single in the third inning. Damazo′s base hit in the sixth inning rounded out the scoring.

In game two, Geneva posted three runs in the bottom of the first that featured a two-run triple from Dan Jeffreys. Three unearned runs from Grove City in the top of the second tied the game before Mike Jeffreys broke the tie with a run scoring single in the bottom of the inning. Geneva added single runs in the third and fifth innings before a pair of runs in the sixth put the game away. Drew Nichols started for Geneva and picked up the victory. Nichols pitched five innings and did not allow an earned run on three hits. TJ Lambert grabbed his first save of the year with a pair of hitless innings of relief to close out the game.

Garrett Swanson led the offense in game two with three hits while Mike Jeffreys and Ryan McGonigle each collected a pair.

Geneva will travel to Saint Vincent for a single game on Wednesday before beginning a three-game series with Waynesburg with a single game at home on Friday at 4 pm.
