Beaver Falls, PA - The Geneva softball team had just one non-conference doubleheader since returning from Florida on March 12th. The wait turned out to be worth it as the Golden Tornadoes open the conference schedule on Wednesday with a doubleheader sweep against the 2012 PAC regular season champion Saint Vincent Bearcats. Geneva took care of Saint Vincent 5-0 in game one and cruised to a 10-0 victory in five innings in the night cap. The Golden Tornadoes improved to 8-8 overall and 2-0 in conference play.

Game one opened with neither team able to draw first blood through the first three innings. The Golden Tornadoes exploded for four runs in the bottom of the fourth thanks to a trio of extra base hits. Leah Prisuta opened the inning with a double and scored on Christina Fuqua′s two-base hit. Laura Beck followed with Geneva′s third straight double to extend the lead. Samantha Johnson′s RBI single capped the four run frame. Geneva added an unearned run in the fifth to round out the scoring. The five runs was more than enough for Johnson who tossed a five hit shut-out with a pair of strikeouts and no walks. Geneva finished game one with seven hits including a pair from Prisuta.

Andrea Hinds took the ball for Geneva in the night cap and tossed a two-hit shut-out over five innings. Hinds walked just one batter and struck out six. She also came up with a pair of hits to help Geneva′s offensive cause in game two. Geneva broke open a scoreless tie with four runs in the third inning highlighted by a three-run double from Prisuta. Prisuta scored on an RBI groundout from Laura Beck. The Golden Tornadoes posted five more runs in the fourth inning with RBI singles from Fuqua and Beck and a two-run double off of the bat of Ashley Davis. Geneva banged out nine hits in game two.

The Golden Tornadoes will head to Waynesburg on Thursday for a 3:30 pm doubleheader with the Yellow Jackets and will visit Grove City on Saturday. Geneva returns home next Wednesday to take on Bethany College.
