New Wilmington, PA - The Geneva College softball team saw its nine-game winning streak come to an end last Saturday. In similar fashion, the Golden Tornadoes put a stop to Westminster′s 11-game streak on Wednesday by salvaging a doubleheader split against the Titans. Westminster took the first game by the score of 6-0 before Geneva snuck away with a 1-0 victory in game two. The split pushed Geneva′s overall record to 14-12 including an 8-2 record in the PAC.

Neither team could dent the scoreboard through the first four innings of game one. Geneva′s Andrea Hinds was going pitch for pitch with Westminster senior Chelsea Brown. In the bottom of the fifth, the Titans finally got rolling with five runs after two outs. Westminster added a sixth run in the sixth inning to put the game away. Hinds allowed four earned runs on ten hits in the loss. Geneva′s offense remained stagnant with just two hits in game one.

Geneva did manage six hits in the night cap and Lori Deem′s fielder′s choice in the bottom of the sixth plated Ashley Davis with the game′s only run. Samantha Johnson scattered six hits to pick up her tenth victory of the season. She struck out just one batter but was solid enough to help Geneva gain a split. Laura Beck had a pair of hits for Geneva in game two.

The Golden Tornadoes travel to Bethany on Thursday to complete game one against the Bison that stands 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh. The two teams will then complete the doubleheader with game two to follow.

Geneva returns home on Saturday for a 1 pm doubleheader against Washington & Jefferson.
