Pittsburgh, PA - Geneva needed to sweep a doubleheader at Chatham University on Saturday and then hope for some help across the PAC on Saturday to claim the top seed in next week′s PAC tournament and with it a chance to host the four-team event. The Golden Tornadoes took care of their end of the bargain but didn′t get the help it needed. Geneva swept Chatham by scores of 7-3 and 4-2 to secure the second seed in next week′s tournament. The Golden Tornadoes improved to 20-14 overall and 14-4 in the conference. Geneva will open the PAC tournament at Westminster next Thursday against Washington & Jefferson. Westminster managed a split at Bethany on Saturday to claim the top spot and will host Thomas More in Thursday′s first round.

Geneva came out banging the ball around the field and plated four runs in the first inning. Ashley Davis came up with an RBI single Lori Deem and Elyssa Simko also had first inning RBI singles. Chatham responded with three runs in the bottom of the first but Geneva got on the board again in the second with another run when Leah Prisuta scored on a throwing error. In the third inning, Geneva took advantage of a passed ball and a wild pitch to score two more runs. Neither team posted a run after the third inning and Geneva held on for the 7-3 victory. Samantha Johnson went the distance and got her 14th win of the year. She allowed three runs on five hits while striking out five. Johnson also led Geneva′s ten hit attack with three knocks of her own. Mackenzie Kemerer had two hits for the Golden Tornadoes.

Andrea Hinds picked up the victory in game two with 6.1 innings of work. She allowed nine hits but just two earned runs with a strikeout. Johnson came on to get the final two outs to earn the save. Geneva′s offense generated seven hits including two each from Prisuta, Ashley Davis and Laura Beck. Geneva took the lead for good in the second inning on an RBI double from Simko and a run scoring triple from Prisuta.

Geneva will travel to Case Western on Tuesday for a non-conference doubleheader in preparation of next Thursday′s PAC tournament.
